
The primary source of material for the unit is provided in the guided readings listed below. Nevertheless, I offer the following sections by way of introduction to those for whom the topic is entirely new and as a checklist of the subject matter with which you will need to be familiar. I suggest that you read my notes first to gain an overview and then refer to the guided readings so as to develop and deepen you knowledge of the subject matter. The notes will also include links to relevant WEB pages/sites.
Finally, you will find several exercises designed to check you understanding of the material presented in the notes and readings (these are not part of the research exercise upon which your assessment for the course is based.) Try to complete these exercises in preparation for the next week's seminar where they will be worked through and any problems discussed.
